Description
The original photo was taken by Ricky Slaven who sadly is no longer with us. I was so inspired by this picture that I contacted his sister in Arizona to request permission to paint it.
I feel the image captures an instant of life and survival of the fittest in the wild. The lethal calculating flight of speed of the bird and its historic raptors claws capturing that next meal displays the impact of that grasp in the water.
The verse that appears on the Giclee Print was superbly written by friend Rosemary Pearce and describes the scene as follows
Raptors Delight - Captured by Rosemary Pearce
Perched high, on a bright sunlit day
The Raptor waits for a glimpse of its prey.
Ripples gleam softly, all is serene
Cameraman gazes in awe at the scene.
Their eyes are alert, their senses are heightened.
The sun moves higher, the water is brightened.
Fast silver flash moves the water aside
Ripples are stirred, wider than wide.
‘Neath the bright surface something has stirred
Gadfly and midges - the Salmon is lured !
Heart beats quicken the Salmon is seen
The raptor, alerted, is glued to the scene.
Scanning the ripples, one glance at the sky
Tells him the raptor is ready to fly.
Claws grasp the prey with a tenacious grip !
Camera is raised the shutter blinks click!
In one awesome moment the man and the raptor
Have taken their prize - A synchronised Capture !
